The eleventh win in succession for the Victorian crew. The West Australian crew retired from the race in the first mile owing to the six man's stretcher breaking. The Victorians led early from Queensland and New South Wales. By half way, Victoria led by a canvas with Queensland and South Australia on level terms behind Victoria. Victoria then sprinted and cleared away from the other crews. The margins were 1 1/2 lengths to SA, 2 lengths again to QLD and 4 lengths back to NSW.
