Victoria led from the start and won comfortably by five seconds in the end. However NSW applied good pressure on the Victorians with 500 metres to go but to no avail. Coach Brian Richardson stated that: "To win by two lengths was amazing. I have seen only one other crew put clear daylight between itself and the rest, and that was the NSW crew of 1976."

Richard Powell from Queensland took the lead at about the 500 metre mark and was never headed after that point. Gullock from Victoria applied pressure at various stages of the race but Powell won through by a margin of 3 seconds.

The Victorians led from the start and whilst the finishing margin was only 4 seconds, they did not look threatened at any stage.

This was an intriguing race. The Australian Rowing magazine described it as follows: The Victorian crew broke at the first attempt to startand were perhaps unsettled when the race got away clearly on the second attempt. The Queenland crew were first through the 500m, 1000m and 1500m in times of 1:21, 2:50 and 4:23 respectively, but the Victorian crew coached by David Pincus, produced a superlative final 500m. The crew's rating actually dropped to 37, and with no sign of anxiety and a flawless, fluid rhythm, the Victorian Youth Eight swept to a 2.5 second victory over second placed Queensland.

This was a strong win of seven seconds to the Victorian crew.

This was a great race between Annelies Voorthuis of NSW and Ceinwen Frisch of QLD - the other scullers were outclassed. These two scullers fought out the championship throughout the race in a great struggle with Voorthuis winning narrowly.

This was the best race of the day with three crews tenaciously fighting for the Championship. Victoria won through in the end but were hotly pursued by both SA and QLD.
